Veintidos
As I turn 22, I feel kind of old (I’m “in my twenties”!), but life feels right, and even-keel. I went shopping on Friday with some money Mom & Dad sent me, and I only bought practical, neutral items of clothing that would “last me a long time.” And Natalie (my roommate) told me yesterday that I’m emotionally stable, which is a new phenomenon. In some ways, I feel like I have fewer answers than I did five years ago — but the truths that I do know are truer than true. Here are some things I’ve learned, and believe — an incomplete list.
- There is no way to love, except extravagantly. Be generous with your time, energy, possessions, emotions. Be generous with your heart!
- The future works itself out as it turns into the present.
- A day without music is a day that could’ve been just that much better.
- A world without music is a dreary world indeed.
- Friday night siestas are sometimes just as awesome as Friday night fiestas.
- Comparison is a silly, life-draining game. There’s just no absolute measuring-scale for human beings (thank goodness).
- Everything will seem better in the morning. Mom has been telling me this for years, and I finally believe her.
- It’s possible to resist conformity without being antagonizing.
- A few good friends make the world a beautiful place.
- My parents are smart & wise.
- It’s okay to revise your world views again and again, for the rest of your life. It means you’re not passively passin’ through.
